Hillary Clinton’s nomination comes at the end of a relatively smooth Democratic Convention, when previous Democratic presidents and defeated primary candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont took the stage to demonstrate a relatively unified party, said Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science at the University of Mary Washington. The frustration of those who supported Sanders will erode as the election approaches and as those activists consider whether they prefer Clinton or Republican nominee Donald Trump, Farnsworth said.
Recent surveys show that about 90 percent of Sanders supporters prefer Clinton to Trump.
