If anyone needs additional evidence of the power of the incumbency and the ability to draw one’s own districts in which to run, look no further than Tuesday’s General Assembly elections.

Throw in acute voter apathy — almost 75 percent of the electorate stayed home statewide — and you have a prescription for, well, exactly what happened….

University of Mary Washington political scientist Stephen J. Farnsworth attributed the results to one thing: “gerrymandering, gerrymandering, gerrymandering.”
