Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that President Trump’s plans to bring coal jobs back to West Virginia won’t be successful because the price of natural gas is so much lower. In addition, coal from the eastern region of the country is more polluting than coal from the Rocky Mountain region, which creates another disincentive for coal mining in West Virginia and neighboring states, Farnsworth said.
