Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that Sen. McClellan’s congressional primary victory was aided by her 2021 campaign for the Democratic nomination for governor of Virginia. Although she was not successful in becoming the nominee, Farnsworth said that campaign helped increase her visibility to Democratic primary voters beyond her Senate of Virginia district.
