“It’s unusual for a candidate to spend this much money in a House primary, and it’s very unusual for a candidate with that kind of money to lose,” said Stephen J. Farnsworth, professor of political science and international affairs at the University of Mary Washington.
“The result shows that the money was not particularly well spent.”
That said, Farnsworth added, Cantor’s connections and ability to raise money make him “a very compelling choice for a future (Republican National Committee) chair.”
