“This is an election, I think, where the real influence is how much you dislike the other side more than how much you like your own side,” said Steve Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington. “I think that we’re living in a time when campaigns are much more effective at demonizing the opposition than making the case for one’s own side.”
