The first presidential debate will likely be filled with efforts to change the subject, said Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science at the University of Mary Washington and author of the book “Presidential Communication and Character.” Farnsworth said President Trump will want to avoid talking about Covid-19 and Joe Biden will want to talk about the administration’s handling of the matter as much as possible.
