“Republican candidates in 2021 have a big problem,” said Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor and director of the Center for Leadership and Media Studies at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia. “If you sound too much like Donald Trump, you lose. If you sound too little like Donald Trump, you lose in a different way.”
