“Jeb Bush needs to spend a lot of money right now because all of the political conversation on the Republican side these days is being taken up by Donald Trump,” said Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. “It seems like the only way a Republican candidate for president gets noticed these days is to be Donald Trump or talk about Donald Trump.”
Farnsworth said Bush and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton have a similar problem — a sense of inevitability that is backfiring on them.
“He is looking like Hillary Clinton on the other side, where the expectation of inevitability is giving way to real competition,” Farnsworth said.
