Professor Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington and author of the book “Presidential Communication and Character,” said President Trump would have maximized his chances for re-election if he had moved much more aggressively in March to counter the Covid-19 virus. Now, with cases continuing to rise in many parts of the nation, the economic declines that have accompanied the outbreak will last much longer, Farnsworth said.
