“The governor is in a no-win situation when it comes to some of the things that Donald Trump has said and how well they will play in the commonwealth,” said Stephen Farnsworth, a political scientist at the University of Mary Washington. “If you go all-in on red-state politics, you lose a lot of support in purple Virginia.”
