Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that Donald Trump’s acceptance speech was unusually negative for a newly named nominee. “It is like he is still trying to win the nomination,” Farnsworth said.
The Republican convention did not offer a pivot towards the ideological center, a traditional campaign strategy when the candidates face the moderate general election electorate that casts ballots in the November election, he said.
