AG’s race pivots on culture wars (Chesterfield Observer)

“The attorney general tends to be a very powerful voice in the culture wars,” said Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington and director of its Center for Leadership and Media Studies.

“In these divisive times, a lot of issues wind up in the courts,” Farnsworth added. “The truth is, just about every attorney general is going to politicize the office. That’s largely what their voters elect them to do. When Republicans controlled the office, we saw a lot of resistance to anything Democratic leaders wanted to do. Now we’re seeing, more or less, the same thing from the Democrats.”
