Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington in Virginia said that the delay in transferring the articles of impeachment from the US House to the US Senate increased public attention on the partisan nature of the upper chamber. It also allowed more critical information about the president's conduct to become public before the Senate trial began, he said.
