And change often comes only slowly to Virginia, said Stephen Farnsworth, a political scientist at the University of Mary Washington. With this year’s narrowly divided House of Delegates, legislators may be reluctant to tackle the kind of issues, like Lee-Jackson Day, that lie dormant until politicians try to make hay from them.
“I think it’ll likely be there 20 years from now, though maybe the name will be different,” he said.
