Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said political figures should be more careful about tweeting about violence these days. In recent weeks in the US, a candidate for Congress recently attacked a reporter and a member of the congressional leadership was wounded in an attack on a ball field a few weeks ago. These incidents, and others, demonstrate that some people need relatively little encouragement to engage in physical attacks, Farnsworth said.
“All it takes is one individual with a vendetta and gun to create a catastrophe,” Farnsworth said.
