Stephen Farnsworth, a professor at the University of Mary Washington, thinks a key indicator could come from precincts like Hampton’s East Hampton or Newport News’ Greenwood, where Hillary Clinton’s totals were 1,390 and 786 higher than McAuliffe’s, or Hampton’s Asbury and York County’s Harwoods Mill, where a Trump surge produced 670 and 492 more Republican votes than in the 2013 gubernatorial race.
