Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that the Republican majority in the US Senate is passing rules to maximize the chances that the impeachment process is over as quickly as possible. The one potential problem for this strategy is that it is unpopular with voters, who say they want senators to solicit more evidence and witnesses during the trial, Farnsworth said.
