Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that President Trump continues to struggle with the negotiations over the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Farnsworth said the president wants to appear tough to respond to the beliefs of many of his supporters that the deal hurts the American economy, but at the same time Trump doesn't want the US economy to be hurt by the heightened trade barriers that would result if the treaty were scrapped.
