Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that President Trump’s public criticisms of Attorney General Sessions are unprecedented, and an attack on traditional level of autonomy that the Justice Department receives. Sessions is probably trying to defend the rule of law and is hoping that Trump moves on to another topic, Farnsworth said.
