Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that President Trump’s low public approval numbers created an unusual environment in American politics: a time when big business interests did not get what they wanted from a Republican president. Most big businesseses wanted the US to stay in the Paris agreement on climate change, but many of Trump’s working class voters wanted out, and Trump supported the latter, Farnsworth said.
