Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington in Virginia said that President Trump is not all that effective in conveying empathy in the wake of public tragedies, like the recent mass shootings in the US. In fact, Trump undermined his own attempts at leading public mourning for those murdered by engaging in partisan attacks on his political opponents before the day was over, Farnsworth said.
