Professor Stephen Farnsworth said it would be highly unwise for President Trump to fire the FBI director, as James Comey is widely respected on Capitol Hill and doing so would only increase pressure for investigations of the new president. Plus, any FBI director and his allies may know things that a president would wish to keep secret, Farnsworth said.
“The first rule of success in Washington is not to make an enemy of the FBI,” Farnsworth said.
