Stephen J. Farnsworth, a professor of political science at the University of Mary Washington, said that while a special election provides “perhaps the only possible means” by which Morrissey could hang on to his seat, the odds of winning are not in the Democrat’s favor.
“In a district full of people who have not gone to jail, are they really going to vote for a man who is going to spend his nights in jail during the special election?” Farnsworth said.
