“This was the nastiest campaign we have seen in Fredericksburg in at least a dozen years,” said Stephen J. Farnsworth, a political scientist at the University of Mary Washington, which is in the district.
“Susan Stimpson did what could be done in this race. But ultimately, running against an incumbent speaker of the House of Delegates is a near impossible task,” Farnsworth said.
