Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University, says that while Democrats were more likely to think McDonnell should spend time behind bars, the majority of Republicans thought so too.
“Voters are really very angry about the level of corruption in Virginia politics and there’s clear sentiment for the judge sending a signal to other political figures that this kind of misbehavior will not be tolerated,” Farnsworth says.
