Obamacare’s Woes not Fixed Yet (Boston Herald)

Political pundits warn that the problems Obamacare is facing in the public’s mind are likely to be bigger than even a successful website fix can address, and they could still spell trouble for Democrats in next year’s congressional midterm elections.

But the administration’s most immediate problem is a technical fix that remains unproven.

“The window is rapidly closing for the administration to fix this,” said Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at University of Mary Washington. “If two months from now we’re still talking about this, it’s going to be a problem for the Democrats. It could be a rough midterm election for Democrats.”

The Obama administration announced they had hit their self-imposed deadline Saturday to allow most people to access the health care website launched in a bungled rollout Oct. 1 but acknowledged problems still persist. The Herald reported yesterday it could be many months before all the technological bugs are worked out on HealthCare.gov.

“The truth is we’re not going to know how well this works until people start logging in by the tens of thousands at once,” said Farnsworth. “The holiday week is a good time to announce everything is working fine. We really won’t know how well this will work until people are back at work and looking for coverage.”
