Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that President Trump’s apparent threat to use nuclear weapons on North Korea is a rare departure from decades of US foreign policy that did not emphasize the use of such dangerous weapons to resolve foreign and military disputes. Farnsworth said it seemed unlikely that North Korea would back down in this dispute, which could be disastrous if it continues to escalate.
