Proposed Virginia Budget Could Bring Boon To Local Governments (WAMU)

Stephen Farnsworth, a political science professor at the University of Mary Washington, says that while there are sometimes lots of fireworks over the state budget at the last minute, there’s no issue like Medicaid holding things up this year, and there’s more money.

“Even if you compare where the state is now compared to where lawmakers thought the state was going to be financially, things are better than they were anticipated to be just a couple of months ago,” Farnsworth says.

That financial footing means local governments may not have to return $30 million of state aid next fiscal year.
