Professor Stephen Farnsworth of the University of Mary Washington said that someone at the White House had to be shown the door after the president’s inconsistent response to the white supremacist rally in Virginia. Dismissals of top staffers can take the heat off a president, and Steve Bannon was an obvious choice to be let go, given his history of controversial rhetoric, Farnsworth said.
